"My Name is Rachel Corrie" performed at Edinboro Feb 27

The North-Africa/West Asia Studies Committee (NAWA) of Edinboro University presents: An 85-minute, one-woman play taken from the writings of Rachel Corrie, edited by Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner.

“My Name Is Rachel Corrie” with Courtney Day Nassar

On March 16, 2003, Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old American peace activist, was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer while trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home.

The play is composed from Rachel’s own journal entries, letters, and emails and tells the story of a young girl who left Evergreen State College to join the International Solidarity Movement as an activist in the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “It is the leaders who make war.” [Rachel Corrie]

Sean O'Donnell, who directed Nassar in the play at the New Olde Bank Theatre in Pittsburgh, said of Nassar’s performance: "Our goal was never to imitate Rachel; it was simply to tell her story. Courtney accomplishes that task. She is brilliant in this role. She owns it." Since first performing “My Name is Rachel Corrie,” Ms. Nassar has joined the Pittsburgh Palestine Solidarity Committee and become actively involved in human rights issues.

The play will be performed without an intermission or set changes and will be followed by discussion. The event is free and open to the public. February 27 Pogue Student Center Theater, Edinboro University, Edinboro PA 4:00pm
