"My Name is Rachel Corrie" performed at Edinboro Feb 27

The North-Africa/West Asia Studies Committee (NAWA) of Edinboro University presents: An 85-minute, one-woman play taken from the writings of Rachel Corrie, edited by Alan Rickman and Katharine Viner.

“My Name Is Rachel Corrie” with Courtney Day Nassar

On March 16, 2003, Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old American peace activist, was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer while trying to prevent the demolition of a Palestinian home.

The play is composed from Rachel’s own journal entries, letters, and emails and tells the story of a young girl who left Evergreen State College to join the International Solidarity Movement as an activist in the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “It is the leaders who make war.” [Rachel Corrie]

The Weight of Nothing

"Tell me the weight of a snowflake," a coal-mouse asked a wild dove.

"Nothing more than nothing," was the answer.

"In that case, I must tell you a marvelous story," the coal-mouse said. "I sat on the branch of a fir tree, close to its trunk, when it began to snow, not heavily, not in a raging blizzard, no, just like in a dream, without any violence. Since I didn't have anything else to do, I counted the snowflakes settling on the twigs and branch. Their number was exactly 3,741,952. When the next snowflake dropped onto the branch—nothing more than nothing, as you say—the branch broke off."

Having said that, the coal-mouse flew away.

Peace activists march in Meadville and Dunkirk Memorial Day Parades

Peace activists in Meadville PA and Dunkirk NY will be marching in the
Memorial Day parades of those communities. Below are messages from
their organizers about participating in those events:

MEADVILLE Women in Black/Vets for Peace
Dear Friends,
This year will mark the fifth year that Meadville's Women in Black and Veterans for Peace have marched in the annual Memorial Day Parade.

And what a five years it has been. In year one, we had to fight resistance to even be allowed to participate. But we prevailed and carried over 75 gold star service flags to honor and remember those who have died in the war on Iraq and to remind our friends and neighbors of the human face and cost to this war. Some folks in the crowd booed us and others turned their backs.
