Younger generations know Dr. Martin Luther King as the country’s
most prominent civil rights leader of all time. But King’s opposition
to the Vietnam War, and to U.S. foreign policy in general, has been
erased from mainstream history. Dr. King's “Why I Oppose the War in
Vietnam” Sermon at the Ebenezer Baptist Church was delivered on April
4, 1967, exactly one year before he was assassinated. This powerful
speech was released by Black Forum records, a subsidiary of Motown, and
went on to win a Grammy in 1970 for the Best Spoken Word Recording.
